First Impression- Jay Chou's 12 New Works (Part 2)

 

 

First: OMG, YUSH WHOLE ALBUM RELEASED!!!!! I BEEN WAITING!

There's a few things I have to say about this album, and that is this IS one of the best comebacks Jay has ever had. I liked the two different styles he used, one was the traditional Chinese (Worldly Inn, Gong Gong with Headache) and the others were European style (Ming Ming Jiu, Big Ben). The mvs for those four songs are released and it's worth checking out, especially "Gong Gong with Headache" xD
I love how there's two different feels in the album, and the European style mvs were beautiful with sceneries from London and Scotland. Also the comedy mv was really good entertainment, you can read about that in Random's review of the mv.
Now I didn't know about this till now but his album is named "12 New Works" because this is his 12th album, he has debuted for 12 years and it is released in December, 2012. Oh, and there's 12 new songs. So he has that whole 12 thing going on lol.

Rest of the songs on his album are catchy, the usual C-pop style, slowish with a good beat. I love the lyrics, they are always what makes Jay's songs amazing. "Ai Ni Mei Cha"（爱你没差) is actually a duet, they are singing about how it is too late for them to be together and love one another. "Meng Xiang Qi Dong" （梦想启动), has a nice piano opening then it gets catchy. He is encouraging us to go after our dreams, believe in ourselves, don't give up easily and he will be cheerings for us :) His other love song "Na Li Dou Shi Ni" (哪里都是你), is actually one of the slower and sadder songs. Great piano playing in the background as always, and Jay's vocals are really really good in this song. Definitely one of my favorites. Then there's always the fun and cheerful song, "Wu Ke Li Li" (乌克丽丽). It has a Hawaiian feel to it, makes me feel like I'm at the beach. And the rhyming just kills me: you don't have to wear a bikini, your smile is very kawaii, vacation doesn't have to be in Hawaii.

Conclusion: I am super happy for Jay's comeback, I like probably 10 out of 12 songs. They are all worth a try and if you understand the lyrics it makes it soo much better. His pronounciation is getting good, like I can understand him without reading the lyrics :') Must of worked hard on that. I hope he will be releasing more mvs and I shall now bask in his songs. First Impression: Jay Chou's 'Gong Gong with Headache'

This song. This MV. I almost died of laughter. I'm not a diligent follower of Jay Chou so the Jay Chou I know is the one who sings 'Tornado' and 'I'm Not Worthy', not this fellow who sings about eunuchs. I'm not Chinese so I watched it without knowing what the song was about, but Yuanie gave me a bit of background information (She's also the one who showed me the MV). Nothing could have prepared me for the MV itself though. Just look at the picture of him above. Be prepared ladies, as I dance to you in my Chinese clothes singing about an eunuch.

Nothing was special to me in the beginning until I heard the guy's laugh. That laugh where nothing is funny, but you need to force out a sincere laugh for the take. Yuanie told me he's the emperor ordering the jester's head to be cut off. My, my. At least the jester gave the emperor one last laugh with his failure.

Then I saw a group of these faces jumping around as the music started. Is this some sort of Chinese culture I'm not familiar with? Because they are scary as hell. What is your purpose in the palace? Jump around and do some Asian looking exercises? This particular scary being seems to have a different duty compared to the others. A hand that's attached to a body for the eunuch to use to play his guitar. That's perfectly normal.

One of the best parts of the MV for me was how he's dancing in Chinese clothes. Something about it. Just seeing him like that. Look at how pretty he's posing. At this very moment, he's saying "gong gong gong gong gong gong". I accepted it at first, but then I had to know. What in the world is "gong gong"?
EUNUCH. He's repeating the word 'eunuch'! Oh man, let me wipe a tear. The song itself is very upbeat which I'm not used to from Jay Chou. I wasn't imagining the song to be in a soft slow melody used in sad love songs, but I wasn't entirely expecting it to be upbeat either.

Now what the hell is that? There's this random ninja with a sorry ass knife trying to kill the eunuch with a fairy wand with Barbie's hair.

Embracing the Chinese in him, isn't he? He's even got the glasses. A few seconds later, he's surrounded by two girls. Well done. One of the girls has a very noticeable cleavage unfit for an Asian lady. Flaunt it all you want girl, Jay Chou doesn't care, he's just going to sing about a castrated male.

Apparently, Jay Chou is so awesome, that when he stomps on the ground, the people around him jump. Look at that pose of his. I am Jay Chou. Yes, yes you are. You're also dancing in Chinese clothes again. I can't breathe. I don't know why I find that hilarious.

This was disturbing. No matter how many times people use this common trick of a seemingly attractive woman who turns out to be a hideous man, I will never stop being scarred. What was he doing in a flower petal bath with make up on? Why. He also had some pretty feminine legs.

You see that pearl necklace around his neck? He is about to spin it like a BOSS. I had to point it out. It had to be mentioned.

I smell a troll. The emperor is giving the eunuch a handful of what looked to be gold. Look at how excited the poor eunuch looks. It turns out it's just chocolate wrapped in gold colored wrapper. Genius. This emperor has my respect. The look on the eunuch's face when he realizes it's just chocolate. Nah, bro. Dude, seriously? Poor guy.

LOL. What just happened? Why did his head fall from his shoulders? I don't know the lyrics. Does the lyrics say something like 'OOPS. Now you're beheaded!"? And again, what is with that fairy wand? The two backup dancers' face is distracting as well.

In the end, I couldn't stop laughing. Dancing in Chinese clothes. Singing about eunuchs. GONG GONG. The trolling. The scary ass faces. The choreography. I only mentioned a few that truly killed me, but believe me, there's more to this MV. It's a song that I'll most likely listen to for a few days, but the addiction will fade like a fad. For now though, someone get me an oxygen mask, I can't breathe.

First Impression- Jay Chou's 12 New Works (Part 1)

                      


Very first thought: YUSH. OMG MY FAVORITE SINGER IS RELEASING A NEW ALBUM *fan girling*

First Impression: Now I know Jay said he will be doing a traditional Chinese style song in every album, so I was very excited about that because I know he does an amazing job every time. It is called "Worldly Inn" (红尘客栈), and basicly he is talking about how this great fighter/swordsman will "retire" from the fighting going on in the world and be with his loved one. I watched the mv and I was sort of disappointed that Jay was not acting in it so that wasn't a big hit with me. However the song was good and lyrics were meaningful, another Jay Chou style composition.
His next song "Obviously" (明明就) ...I think that's the right translation ^_^; is a really good song!! I like how the guy is singing about how the girl should pick someone else because he is better and would make her happier. It's very catchy and we hear Jay's vocal ranges~~ But again...the mv was meh -_- I don't really like Jay's new image...

 

 Like come on Jay.....you are like 30ish and the blonde hair and crazy abs is just....not working for me. But as your loyal fan I shall support you! The rest of the songs are the album are....interesting. Some are like totally wutever and some are catchy. Such as "Big Ben"（大笨钟）and "Sign Language" （手语). He had some autotune in one or two songs, I think it's because he is trying to fit in with the trend that's going on but he doesn't need ANY autotune at all.  For now, I wouldn't say it's the strongest comeback from Jay, but it's definitely nice to hear from him again <3. Rest of the album will be released later~
A word for haters, you guys say he mumbles and cannot sing and wutever. Back off. This man is a musical genius with a talent that's RARELY seen in anyone. His lyrics are poetry and the songs just touches my heart. If you can compose and write as good as him AND sing then congrats, you may bash on him. If not, you have no right to hate on him.
 Conclusion: YAY FOR JAY'S COMEBACK, CAN'T WAIT TO HEAR REST OF THE ALBUM!
